Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo, the first city in the New World, is the capital of the Dominican Republic. It’s bursting with colours, rhythms, flavours, and people whose smiles and hospitality will ensure your visit is a great experience. Our tour begins upon leaving the hotel district accompanied by an expert guide in local history, who will introduce Dominican history to you. Our well-appointed coach will ensure you travel in comfort, making your trip through our capital even more relaxing. We’ll visit the Colonial District, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you’ll find streets built more than 500 years ago, the First Cathedral of the New World, built between 1523 and 1541, and characterised by its Gothic buildings, the Columbus Alcazar granted to Diego Columbus, first-born son of the discoverer of America, Christopher Columbus, built between 1511 and 1514. The Ozama Fortress was the first fortified palace built in the Hispanic era. Great Spanish conquistadors such as Hernán Cortés and Pedro de Alvarado went through its doors. Other famous landmarks include: Calle las Damas, the Sundial, the National Pantheon, Casa de Hernán Cortés, Casa Nicolás de Ovando, Plaza de la Cultura, la Calle de las Mercedes, and the handmade crafts markets. We’ll replenish some energy by having lunch at one of the best restaurants in the area, where you can try Dominican cuisine and enjoy: salads, fruit, cereals, soups, meat, fish, pasta and more, all served with water and soft drinks. Did you really think that that was the end of our tour? Not quite yet. From the coach, you’ll get to see places of great historic interest such as: the National Palace and the Columbus Lighthouse. We’re absolutely positive that this excursion will make you fall in love with this amazing country and culture. This excursion takes approximately 12 hours and is available every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
