Mediaeval Castle – North and South

When you arrive at Castillo San Miguel, Count Rodrigo and his daughter the young Countess will welcome you to their castle, whose entrance is decorated with armour, swords, chests, and writings of the period. Count Rodrigo’s kindly subjects will lead you to the Tournament Hall, a large elongated space with sand and wooden bleachers, where mediaeval jousts and games will take place and where you’ll cheer on one of the six competing knights. During the Tournament, a banquet will be served, just as it was served in mediaeval times. You’ll drink the soup straight from the bowl and eat a whole chicken and its trimmings with your hands. Dessert and drinks complete the meal. The Count’s guests can watch the entire Tournament from their seats: the view is excellent from the stands. The sand arena where the horses and knights strut their stuff is 50 metres long, which can hold 1,100 guests. Normally, after the Tournaments, the guests move to a second room: the Ballroom, which has a capacity of 800 visitors. The Ballroom, as Count Rodrigo calls it, has a large stage where the guests can dance and celebrate the winning knight’s victory.
